How Strict Is Alaska Airlines Carry On

Alaska Airlines is quite strict when it comes to carry-on luggage. So make sure to stick to the airline's carry-on policies below to avoid any last-minute hassle.

  • Alaska Airlines allows you to carry one cabin baggage with dimensions 22" x 14" x 9" or 16 x 43 x 25 cm, including handles and wheels, for free. Besides, it must fit the overhead bin or under the front seat.
  • You can also carry one personal item for free, which includes a purse, briefcase, and laptop bag per passenger.
  • A jacket, duty-free items, umbrella, and assistive devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, crutches, strollers, and child restraint seats, are not considered as carry-on allowance.
  • Diaper bags are considered personal items.
  • Remember, the bulkhead seats don't have under-seat storage; fit your carry-on in the overhead bin during takeoff or landing.

Alaska Airlines: Baggage Fees and Policy

  • The Alaska Airlines baggage policy for regular fares states that you can carry one personal item and one carry-on for free. The dimension of the carry-on should be 22" x 14" x 9" or 16 x 43 x 25 cm, including handles and wheels.
  • For checked baggage / Hold baggage, you can carry two bags with a maximum dimension of 62 inches or 157 centimeters (L+B+H) and a maximum weight of 50 pounds or 23 kilograms. The applicable fee applies if the number of the Bag increases.
  • Regarding overweight and oversized bags, you need to pay the applicable fee depending on weight and size category. 

Baggage fee

The airline charges a baggage fee if you don't meet the approved dimensions of your carry-on or checked baggage and also based on oversized and overweight bags.

The baggage fee depends on various factors such as your fare type and destination, whether you are an active U.S. military personnel and dependent, have status with Alaska Airlines frequent flyer program, etc. The baggage fee charged by the airline are as follows:- 

Checked baggage/Hold baggage

  • First Bag: around USD 30.00
  • Second Bag: around USD 40.00
  • Third Bag: around USD 100.00
  • There is no baggage fee within the state of Alaska

For excess baggage

Alaska airlines cost around USD 100.00 for third and additional bags.

For Overweight baggage

  • If the bag weight is between 51 to 100 pounds or 14 to 46 kilograms, the airline will charge around USD 100.00 extra per Bag.
  • Weight more than 100 pounds or 46 kilograms will not be accepted as checked baggage/hold luggage.

For Oversize baggage

It will be charged around USD 100.00 if the bag size is from 63 to 115 linear inches or 160 to 292 cm.
